Day 429: An Interview with Sylvia

Who did you ShiFT?

The elementary music teacher at our local school.

What was your ShiFT?

I had purchased musical symbol plaques at a department store for a great clearance price. I wrapped them in tissue and delivered them to her in a gift bag. I said, “I want to give these to you, and I hope you will like them.”

What was her reaction?

Total thankfulness and happiness. She loved them! She exclaimed with delight because the music room had just been rid of a mold problem, and repainted. They were perfect for the music room!

What inspired you to ShiFT?

The book that I am reading, “Simple Abundance” by Sarah Ban Breathnach encourages people to be generous, outgoing, and selfless.

What did you learn or gain by ShiFTing her world?

There is joy in the occasions you make yourself… there is joy in giving, and joy in seeing receiving.

Why is it important to spread happiness?

Because it makes everybody feel good! To get away from drudgery.

Day 428: I Don’t Stink

Stinkin’ Thinkin’ Stinks

This is a fun site and great for kids AND adults too!  It is focused on helping people to think more positively!  Sometimes a ShiFT has to happen where it is closest … that means sometimes ShiFTing starts inside YOU!

You can still get in on the I Don’t Stink Challenge!!!

Give Half of Something Kindness Challenge 2011– January 1st to March 31st

You have been challenged! You CAN make a difference. You possess the power to change the world, but it starts with one random act of kindness at a time.

Join idontstink.com to engage in extreme acts of kindness. And I don’t mean doing one kind act and stopping there. I mean dedicating some serious time to doing kind acts every day starting on January 1, 2011 and ending on March 31, 2011. In a time when negative news seems to be the norm, let’s give them something good to talk about!

The Kindness Challenge of giving half of something is to raise awareness and the overall positive energy of both the givers and receivers of the kind deeds. But another SA-WEET advantage is that science has proven that anyone who just witnesses the kind act benefits too! Talk about a win-win situation!

Day 426: Giving When You Are Busy and Stressed

An  Optimistic Journey

A message from Jarrod Clark:

The reason I developed this blog was to share tips that may help many of you to stay encouraged when you face trials in life. I am writing from a place of life experiences, trials I’ve faced, failures and successes that I’ve encountered in the past and using the inspiration I’ve obtained during those storms in my life and sharing it with you.

Day 425: A HUGE impact on a little lady

$1,000

Marie Kernin of Beach Park, tears up with Gary Campbell of Gurnee after she received a $1,000 check and thank you card from customer Elizabeth Hewitt of Gurnee.

The waitress was always kind to her.

Now that kidness is being repaid.

A 95-year-old Gurnee woman who was a longtime patron of Waukegan’s Peacock Restaurant died recently and left a $1,000 gift for her favorite waitress there.

“That’s my angel,” Marie Kernin said, reminiscing about Elizabeth “Peg” Hewitt.

Two years ago, Kernin purchased a coat for Hewitt when she noticed the one the elderly woman had on was “was raggedy and torn up.” Kernin’s friends believe the tip Hewitt left her was Hewitt’s way of saying thank you.
