Day 425: A HUGE impact on a little lady

$1,000

Marie Kernin of Beach Park, tears up with Gary Campbell of Gurnee after she received a $1,000 check and thank you card from customer Elizabeth Hewitt of Gurnee.

The waitress was always kind to her.

Now that kidness is being repaid.

A 95-year-old Gurnee woman who was a longtime patron of Waukegan’s Peacock Restaurant died recently and left a $1,000 gift for her favorite waitress there.

“That’s my angel,” Marie Kernin said, reminiscing about Elizabeth “Peg” Hewitt.

Two years ago, Kernin purchased a coat for Hewitt when she noticed the one the elderly woman had on was “was raggedy and torn up.” Kernin’s friends believe the tip Hewitt left her was Hewitt’s way of saying thank you.
